Safe Kids is committed to keeping you informed about recalls of products which can put our kids at risk. While it is important to stay aware of all recalls, Safe Kids urges you to pay particular attention to ones in red, as they are associated with one or more deaths. (There are none in this issue.)

08.22.2014 CPSC: Two Deaths Reported involving Ace Bayou Bean Bag Chairs. They are being voluntarily recalled because of suffocation and choking hazards. The zippers can be opened by children who can crawl inside, get trapped and suffocate or choke on the bean bag chair’s foam beads. A voluntary standard requires non-refillable bean bag chairs to have closed and permanently disabled zippers. Units: 2.2M

08.19.2014 NHTSA: Recaro is voluntarily recalling its ProSport model 385 #child restraint because the car seat's latch does not meet safety standards, allowing a child’s head to move excessively. Units: 39,000 

08.19.2014 CPSC: Bexco is voluntarily recalling its Franklin & Ben Mason 4-in-1 convertible cribs due to fall and entrapment hazards; the crib front can separate from the side panels. Units: 1000.

08.29.2014 FDA: 4C Foods Corp. is voluntarily recalling grated parmesan cheese due to possible salmonella contamination. Units: 3696 6oz. jars.

08.29.2014 FDA: Kraft Foods Group is voluntarily recalling Kraft Singles due to possible risk of foodborne illness. 

08.28.2014 CPSC: American Woodcrafters is voluntarily recalling its bunk beds due to a fall hazard because the side mattress support rails can break. They are sold exclusively at Havertys. Units 1,900. 

08.28.2014 FDA: Dole fresh vegetables is voluntarily recalling (and issuing an allergy alert about) DOLE-branded spinach due to possible contamination by walnuts. 

08.27.2014 FDA: TNUVA USA is voluntarily recalling Mom’s Chicken Extra Thin Cutlets due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes (Lm), the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. Units: 8,300 pounds. 

08.27.2014 CPSC: NRS is voluntarily recalling its water sports helmets due to a risk of head injury because the chin strap can fail allowing the helmet to fall off. Units: 3,300. 

08.27.2014 CPSC: The Goodman Company is voluntarily recalling its air conditioning and heating units due to burn and fire hazards because the power cords can overheat. Units: 233,500.

08.27.2014 CPSC: Multi-purpose outdoor shelters are being voluntarily recalled by Sunjoy due to a fire hazard because the material violates the voluntary flammability standard. They are sold exclusively at BJ's Wholesale Club. Units: 2,000. 

08.26.2014 CPSC: Hewlett-Packard is voluntarily recalling notebook computer AC power cords due to fire and burn hazards. Units: More than six million in U.S. and Canda. 

08.21.2014 FDA: APPA Fine Foods is recalling fully cooked chicken caesar salad kit products due to concerns about possible Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) contamination. Units: 92,000 pounds. 

08.20.2014 CPSC: Attwood is voluntarily recalling its Kayak and Watersports Storage Hanger due to an injury hazard because the adjustment buckles can release allowing the hangers to fall. Units: 10,000. 

08.19.2014 CPSC: Golden Artist Colors is voluntarily recalls QoR synthetic Ox Gall due to skin irritation. Units: 560 (U.S. and Canada).

08.19.2014 FDA: nSpired Natural Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Arrowhead Mills® Peanut Butters, MaraNatha® almond butter and peanut butter because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

08.19.2014 CPSC: Swimwear Anywhere is voluntarily recalling Little Marc Jacobs girls hooded jackets due to a strangulation hazard because the drawstring can become entangled or caught. Units: 210. 

08.19.2014 CPSC: BRITA is voluntarily recalling children’s water bottles due to laceration (a cut from a rough or jagged object) hazard because the lid can break into pieces with sharp points. Units: 242,500. 

08.15.2014 FDA: Whole Foods markets in Massachusetts is voluntarily recalled ground beef due to possible E. Coli contamination. Units: 368 pounds. 

08.14.2014 CPSC: Arctic Cat is voluntarily recalling its 2014 and 2015 snowmobiles Due to Fuel Leak and Fire Hazard. Units: 3200.

08/13/14 CPSC: ESL and Interlogix are voluntarily recalling hard-wired smoke alarms because radio frequency interference can cause the alarms to fail to alert consumers of a fire. Units: 154,000

08/06/14 CPSC: Vizio is voluntarily recalling 39- and 42-inch flat panel televisions because the stand assembly can fail and cause the television to tip over, posing an impact hazard. Units: 245,000

08/15/14 USDA: Whole Foods Markets in Massachusetts are voluntarily recalling ground beef products due to possible contamination with E.coli.

08/14/14 CPSC: Arctic Cat is voluntarily recalling snowmobiles because the fuel can leak from the fuel line assembly, posing a fire hazard. Units: 3,260

08/14/14 CPSC: Vornado Air is voluntarily recalling electric space heaters because they can overheat, melt, and catch fire, posing fire and burn hazards. Units: 79,000

08/12/14 USDA: Perdue and its subsidiary Applegateare voluntarily recalling frozen chicken nuggets because they may be contaminated with small plastic pieces, posing a hazard to consumers.

08/12/14 CPSC: JCP Equestrian is voluntarily recalling HDR stirrup leathers because the leather can crack and break, posing a fall hazard to the rider. Units: 1,200

08/12/14 CPSC: CoScentrix is voluntarily recalling candles in metal tins sold at Hobby Lobby because the candle’s flame can ignite the surface of the wax and coating of the tin, posing a fire hazard. Units: 126,000

08/07/14 CPSC: Lea Industries is voluntarily recalling lighted night stands because the light fixture under the night stand may overheat and scorch a carpet, posing a burn hazard. Units: 520

08/07/14 CPSC: L.L. Bean is voluntarily recalling children’s sweaters because an extra button sewn on the inside tag may detach, posing a choking hazard. Units: 5,300

08/06/14 USDA: Zemco Industries Inc. is voluntarily recalling smoked sausages due to misbranding and undeclared soy, posing a possible allergen hazard to consumers.

08/04/14 FDA: Seoul Shik Poom Inc. is voluntarily recalling ice cream bars due to undeclared eggs, posing a possible allergen hazard.

7/31/14 FDA: Wawona Packing Co. is expanding its previous voluntary recall of fresh, whole peaches, plums, nectarines, and pluots due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
